Transparency Matters

Brett Hovis

At Nowak Dental Supplies, transparency isn’t just a phrase—it’s a core value that guides everything we do. In any business relationship, if a company isn’t open about pricing, policies, or product quality, how can trust truly be established? Transparency is essential for building
accountability and fostering long-term success with employees, customers, and vendor partners alike.

I’ve had the unique opportunity to work on both the manufacturing and distribution sides of the dental lab industry. In previous roles, I often found it challenging to fully support my customers. When labs had questions about product availability or pricing, I was often stuck navigating layers of red tape. Despite my best efforts, the lack of access to critical information left both me and my customers frustrated—and in many cases, they were forced to look elsewhere to keep their businesses running smoothly.

When I interviewed with Nowak, one of my first questions to Shawn and Brandi was about transparency. I wanted to know what tools I would have to better serve our lab partners. They were surprised to learn that at my previous companies, I didn’t have access to key data like pricing, gross profit margins, inventory levels, or even direct supplier contact information. I was equally surprised—and impressed—by how much more robust Nowak’s tools and analytics were compared to some of the larger players in our industry.

Are we perfect? No. But what we are is committed—to being honest, helpful, and fully transparent in how we support your lab’s success. For example, just last week I worked with a large lab that had been buying PMMA from us. They tried another supplier’s product and found it better suited their needs at a more competitive price. When they asked if I’d be upset about the switch, my answer was simple: “Not at all—we’re grateful you’re still buying it from us.” No pressure. No complaints. Just a handshake and a thank you. Because at Nowak, we don’t step over dollars to pick up pennies.

The next time you talk with me—or any Nowak representative—ask us about the tools and data we can provide to give you a clearer picture of where your lab stands, where you might be able to grow your partnership with us, and how we can create more wins together. I firmly believe that customers are more likely to stay loyal to companies that are transparent, data-driven, and genuinely invested in their success. At Nowak, we strive to be that company. Thank you for your business—and for giving us the chance to earn even more of it.
